Alvin and the Chipmunk: The Chipmunk Adventure follows the boys once again getting themselves into trouble, this time internationally. When their father Dave Seville goes to Europe on a business trip and leaves the boys at home with their neighbor Miss Miller. But Alvin comes up with a plan and enters the boys in a hot air balloon race around the world. On the journey they find out that their rivals are none other than the Chipettes. Together they travel around the world and face all the obstacles and challenges along the way, while singing some of the great tunes that the boys are known for. |

Some of the villains in the film are smoking cigarettes and even blow smoke on a dog which reacts by coughing. The villains are also very selfish and put the chipmunks and chipettes in danger by putting them in the hot air balloons with dolls of themselves full of diamonds, they are told to deposit one doll at each location on the map they are given. They also place a bet to see if they can actually do it. It's a bit of a cruel wager that shows how greedy and arrogant they are. It's a bad thing when villains ask kids to smuggles diamonds into other countries and put them in danger. There are some guns fired off as well, but it is in celebration of a Mexican fiesta. The Chipmunks also deceive Dave and Miss Miller by doing an audio recording of Dave's voice to play to her over the phone telling her to send the boys to Europe. There is a violent underwater sequence which's involves a shark similar to Jaws that tries to eat the chipettes. This scene might scare some young ones who watch this movie so it's a head up for you parents who have sensitive children. The Chipettes are also kidnapped by a middle eastern young king known as the sheik. whom wants to marry Britney. The girls are pampered to think that they will be taken care of. They also run into a baby penguin who was also kidnapped by the young sheiks men. The girls are also put into belly dancing clothes as well. On the other hand Theodore is also kidnapped by a tribe, Alvin and Simon are then taken prisoner and stripped of their clothing only to find out that the tribe believes Theodore is their long lost king, and that in order for Alvin and Simon to live they must becomes his slaves. This scene also turns into one of sacrfice as the tribe plans on feeding the boys to crocodiles while burning ropes that are holding up the boys over a pit of them. Some of the tribesman themselves fall into the pit and burn themselves as well. There is also a scene where the chipmucks and chipettes are also hit by a plane. While there is no real bad language in the movie, there is plenty of bickering and yelling among the characters especially the two villains and the people trying to steel the diamond along the way. There is a even a scene where a group of penguins throw snowballs at the villains and a verbal argument occurs between tow of them. Other such things that might be a concern are reckless driving, a police chase and drinking. Some of the villains don't wear seatbelts while driving either and get hurt in the process.

Alvin and the Chipmunk: The Chipmunk Adventure is a movie that I remember seeing as a kid. It's full of the great Alvin and the Chipmunk songs, that I remember singing as a kid. It's funny how over the years you forget about movies like this only to rediscover them year later. While this movie does have a few scenes that may be a bit of a concern for parents, we all must remember that this was produced over twenty years ago when it was ok to have characters smoke in cartoons and have some animated violence. The good thing is that for every bad thing that does happen in the film there are also positive things, such as the Chipettes returning a kidnapped baby penguin to his parents in the North Pole, and all of them wearing their seatbelts that saves them from a car accident. Overall, it's a fun little movie one in which your children will especially love the music. Speaking of music, the DVD also comes with a bonus CD with the music from the film so that your children can enjoy it on their own or during those long car rides to entertain them. The DVD also features original artwork from the movie as well.
