Not long ago, I had the honor of covering the Bambi Blu-ray disc for the site. I am one of the few people who classify Bambi as not just a cartoon made for kids, but as a horror film. When I bring this topic up, most people argue with me about it. However, upon further viewings of the film, many see my point. Bambi is a film that tells the story of nature, man vs. animal. It is not a fun filled story, but rather a story that speaks truth. If you have seen Bambi then you will remember the film ends with Bambi becoming the prince of the forest. Bambi 2 takes place in the middle of the first film when Bambi is reunited with his father. It is a film that tackles the hardships of being a single parent. This is the story of how the Great Prince of the forest, Bambi’s father, raised Bambi and the adventures they share together. They are joined by many familiar friends, Thumper, Owl, Flower, and Faline. Together they will learn from one another as they brave the forest together. Bambi 2 is not as intense as the first film, but deals with many of the issues that happened in the first film. Bambi’s mother death is talked about a lot and there are clashes between friendships that result in some pushing and shoving. The film tackles a few issues that always seem to be part of all our regular lives. Bambi 2 may cover a lot of social issues, but it is not as intense as the original. The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack has many special features which include. Many interactive games such as Owl’s Fun Forest, Thumpers Hurry & Scurry, Bambi Trivia Tracks and the Disney Sketch Pad. There is also a making of featurettes and a new deleted song “Sing the Day”, plus many more. Bambi 2 is a fun film that continues a broader story that takes place in the middle of the first film. Think of it as a story within a story. It is probably best suited for children over the age of five as many issues such as death are talked about as well as survival. It is a good addition to your Disney DVD collection especially if you’re a fan of the original film.
