SYNOPSIS

Jerry Seinfeld plays a Bee named Barry whom after recently graduating from Bee school is told that he needs to pick a job to help out the hive. The job that he picks will be his job for until he dies. Unsatisfied with having to work the same job for as long as he lives, Barry decides to take advantage of an invitation from a bigger group of bee's who are allowed to leave the hive to pollinate plants and collect nectar. On his journey outside the hive, Barry gets separated from the other Bee's and ends up in an apartment. However, a human women named Vanessa (Renée Zellweger) rescues Barry before her boyfriend Ken almost kills him. Feeling the need to thank Vanessa, Barry breaks the Bee law of talking to humans and reveals to Vanessa that not only do Bee talk, but that he is thankful for her saving his life. The two soon become friends and begin spending time with one another, until one day in the food store, Barry see honey for sale. Appalled by the fact that humans are steeling honey from Bee's Barry decides to investigate the matter, which leads to a lawsuit where Bee's sue humans over their stolen honey.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

Bee Movie did not get a PG rating for no reason at all.  In fact it was a very good call by the MPAA to give it a PG rating instead of a G. The movie plays off a one that is more for adults with the sense of humor involved, than it is for children. while the violence and content is that of your basic cartoon violence, there are a few lines of dialogue that might ponder questions from a younger audience.

In terms of violence and content the movie does have a few things that might concern parents. One scene in particular is when Barry and Vanessa's boyfriend Ken get into a fight in the bathroom. The scene involves Ken chasing Barry around the bathroom, throwing things at him and even making a make shift blow touch out of a lighter and some hair spray. He even threaten to flush him down the toilet. There is also a scene in which Whinny the Pooh gets arrested for eating honey along with Piglet. You also have a a few little scene here and there where people are swing newspapers and various objects at bee's but nothing to crazy.  There is some content that is more of something that is unbelievable in terms of real life as opposed to being to graphic for kids to see, such might be a concern to some parents, such includes smoking bees with nicotine smoke to make them pass out, a layer who gets stung by one of the bee's and some other small things here and there that might be a concern to some parents.

The dialogue for this film does not contain any swearing or curse words so you don't have any thing to worry about there. But there are a few things that might concern parents in terms of the some of the jokes used in the film. There is one joke that takes place in the court room where Bee's are compared to slaves of the while man for their honey production. During this scene a black man in the court room separates himself from the while men he is sitting next too. There is also talk of human and bee love between Barry and Vanessa, but nothing crazy or over the top.  There is also a reference to lawyers being bloodsuckers as well, but it's actually a pretty funny joke.

So in retrospect there are a few things in Bee Movie that some parents might want their younger children to hear or see.  I'm sure most younger children might not get the jokes and puns that are thrown around in this film, but as a precaution I must warn parents that their are some things in this film that might be a concern.

OVERALL VIEWS

Bee Movie is a pretty funny movie, but like I said above it's more of a film that adults and teenagers will be entertained by more than children will.  all the jokes seemed to be more adult orientated than kid orientated.  Jerry Seinfeld wrote the script with his writing two of his writing partners from his days on his television show and friend/actor Barry Marder.  So it's expected that their will be more adult humor fused into the movie somewhere.

The movie has a big cast which not only includes Jerry Senfeld and Renée Zellweger, but also a few other familiar voices such as Chris Rock, John Goodman, Larry King, Sting, Matthew Broderick, Patrick Warburton, Kathy Bates, Barry Levinson, Ray Liotta, Oprah Winfrey ,Megan Mullally, Larry Miller, Rip Torn, and Michael Richards. It's a well rounded cast, that works well with the script to bring the animated characters come to life.

I've heard a lot of people ask about how good the animation was for Bee Movie and a lot of people seem to take sides on weather or not it was better than something that Disney and Pixar have produced. to be honest DreamWorks Animation has a different look to their animated features than Disney does. Disney seems to have more detail in their films but all the same the animation in Bee Movie is pretty good from my perspective anyway.

Overall, Bee Movie is more for adults and older kids to enjoy. It's has a lot of adult like jokes, but also brings has this neat story about how Bee's all work for honey and nothing less. It was a fun film to watch, but as a parent I did have my concerns. On that note, I must warn all parents that their is a lot of human and bee interaction in this movie, and it's important, should you let your younger children watch this movie that bee's in real life are dangerous if provoked, and that they sting and bite, and sometimes the results can be fatal. So that's something that should concern parents.  On another note, Bee Movie also brings to light  the importance of honey bee's and their functions here on earth. Recently my uncle and I had a discussion on the declining numbers of honey bee's and how it would be a disaster if they disappeared and how it would effect the pollination cycle of many plants and crops. Bee Movie brings that issue to light, and it's a very important thing that should be taken into account while watching this film, and something you might want to take the time to explain to your kids, should you let them watch this film. Although it has a lot of adult humor and the likes, you can also use the moral story behind the film to educate your children about bee's and their importance here on earth.
