Caillou is a children's television show based on the books by Christine L'Heureux and illustrator Hélène De sputeaux. To be honest with all the parents and non-parents a like that visit this site’ Caillou is that one cartoon I have grown to dislike out of all the cartoons that my child watches. If you have ever watched the show with your child, you would know that the show is full of great lessons for your children to not only learn but grow on. However in the majority of the episodes, (well at least the ones I have seen.) Caillou wines a lot. He always wants to get his way and so on… Honesty, I don’t even like hearing my own kids whine, so my first impressions of Caillou was that he might actually make my daughters whine more. Such is not the case however, as the show teaches kids not to do such things. The good thing about this DVD however is that in almost all of the episodes Caillou does not whine at all. Caillou: Caillou Pretends To Be… is a disc that features twelve adventures where Caillou pretends that he is someone or something else. Each episode features Caillou and his family and friend explaining what a certain kind of person does, such as a pilot, police officer, a captain of a boat, a construction worker and so on. Each episode describes in detail to children what the job description of that person is all about and what they do on a daily basis. The DVD has many special features besides the twelve episodes of the show. The disc contains games, Caillou printable coloring pages, Caillou Music Videos, and a message to parents about how children relate to Caillou and is Caillou Appropriate for my Preschooler. The last featurette is something I actually did check out and was surprised to learn what I did about the character and how he does relate to children. Why it’s not my favorite show, the featurette does make some valued points. Overall, it is apparent that this is not my favorite cartoon that my kids watch, but after watching my three year daughter sit down and sit though the entire DVD uninterrupted I honestly think she came away with something from the information that the show provides for children. It does have a lot of educational information for children to absorb, and for that I give the show a lot of credit. Yet, I know I’m not alone when I say that the character of Caillou can get on my nerves, as some of my family members with younger children of whom watch show have also expressed their feelings to me about the show. However, if our children enjoy the show and they are getting a good educational experience out of it, then it’s well worth letting them watch it. There are a lot of cartoons out there that are full of pointless entertainment and violence. Annoying as Caillou may be at least the character is contributing to the education of our children, and that’s fine with me. |
