SYNOPSIS |

Care Bears have been around for a long time. I remember them when I was a child, my sisters had all the action figures and the cartoon was on all the time on Saturday mornings and after school. Now the loveable bears are making a come back in the DVD market, with new and old characters and a whole brand new series of updated cartoons using the latest in animation technology. This particular Care Bears DVD titled Care Bears : Grizzle-ly Adventures has two new episodes on it. One titled Broken which revolves around Share Bear won't share her favorite necklace to help a friend in need. That friend is happens to be a robot who needs to be fixed. So Share Bear seeks out the help of the care bears nemesis Grizzle who agrees to help. However he fools the care bears into thinking that he has changed his ways and repairs the robot to be at his command and do not so nice things to the care bears. The second and final episode is called Emma's Dilemma, in which a human girl named Emma helps the care bears find some missing items of theirs. They suspect someone has stole them. However when Emma tries to help them she ends up missing too.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language |
|||
|
The Care Bears cartoons are not known to be violent whatsoever, nor do they contain any kind of graphic violence or bad language. However, one might be concerned with some of the actions of the characters in these two episodes and their decision making. While these episodes are meant to make kids learn from the kind and gentle things the Care Bears do, their nemesis Grizzle does some pretty cold hearted things in the show. He steals, lies, cheats, kidnaps, and is destructive. He also is a very unlikable character who is built up with a lot of rage and jealously towards the care bears. He looks like a half robot, half care bear on steroids. Very menacing looking if you ask me. While I don't think young kids will be scared of him, his actions in these shows are something that parents might want to sit down and check out before letting their little ones watch the show. While the Care Bears themselves are filled with a very positive attitude and are always trying to help Grizzle come to terms with himself and be a better bear, Grizzle seems to never take their advice, he also seems to be very bi-polar as well and anti-social. So overall there is nothing major to really be concerned about, but Grizzles action in the show might concern some parents.

OVERALL VIEWS |

If you were to ask me if these new series of Care Bears cartoons are better than the older ones I'd have to say no. I remember really liking the older cartoon when I was a kid. For some reason they seemed to have more interesting plots than the new ones do, although the newer episodes have better animation and are more kid friendly than the ones back in the nineteen eighties. There is more of an educational twist to the new shows as well, and the DVD even comes with a read along feature so your kids can interact with the show as well and learn to read. That's really the only special feature the DVD has besides your normal audio set-up. Overall, This is the first of many new Care Bears DVDs to be released, and although I like the older version from the nineteen eighties better, these new up to date versions are great for the youth of today. They have a more educational feel to them, and children can learn a variety of things such as sharing and self-respect, to learning about different languages and shapes and colors. I would say it's best suited for kids over the age of four, to be on the safe side. Children younger than four years of age might like it, but as I stated above the character of Grizzle can be very selfish and at times scary.
