SYNOPSIS |

|
It begins with a 2-D
animation, typical Disney movie with cute animal friends and song
about true love. Giselle sings about her heart's passion to find
her one true love. A handsome prince, Prince Edwards, happens to
overhear her and goes on a search to find her. Giselle falls out
of a window and Prince Edward catches her and they fall in love.
The next day, they are to be married, except, Edward's wicked
stepmother, Queen Narissa, doesn't want to loose the throne to her
step son's new wife. So, she pushed Giselle down a well that
transport her to the real world- Time Square,
New York City, no more animation. During a stormy night,
Giselle ends up on the wrong side of town and meets Robert and his
daughter, Morgan. She stays with until prince Edwards comes to
rescue her. She believes they will live happily ever after.
Except, with a few plot twists, she questions her fairly tale love
and falls in love with Robert, a divorce attorney. She sings her
way through
NYC, fixes marriages, making friends and learning how New
Yorkers date. Prince Edward with Giselle's animal friend and the
queens' assistant, Nathaniel (pretending to be a good guy)
transport themselves down the well to look for Giselle. Later on,
the Queen Narissa shows up to offer Giselle a poisons apple (since
Nathaniel wasn't doing what she wanted him to do), that only with
a kiss from her one true love will break the spell.
The film has references
to many classic Disney movies,
Cinderella,
Beauty and the Beast,
Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

There is only a few
things that parent's might want to be concerned about. Nothing
major. In the beginning of the movie when Giselle gets lost in the
bad part of town she encounter a homeless man that steels her
diamond crown. There is club called The Palace, which is a
strip-club (you don't see any strippers, it just adds a bit of
adult humor into the plot). Another scene, Giselle is coming out
of the shower with just a towel around her and falls on Robert
(looks like they are kissing), just as that happens Robert's
girlfriend sees them and gets upset and uses words like "piss
off", no curse words, but words that shouldn't be in a family
movie.
Besides that, the movie doesn't really have any kind of bad language, except for maybe the few insults that comes out of the evil queen and some rude comments from New Yorkers...which is expected. At the end of the movie there is an expected (and typical) fight between good vs. evil. Queen Narissa turns herself into a dragon, and tires to destroy Robert. She knows his kiss will bring back Giselle from her deep sleep (she took a bit from the poisons apple).

OVERALL VIEWS |

The film has a great cast which includes Susan Sarandon, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Amy Adams with Julie Andrews narrating the movie. The production value is very good, I really loved the costume design, especially Giselle dress. There is not much going on in terms of special effects, but there is some towards the end of the film, I found them to be ok, nothing special. Enchanted was nominated for three Oscars for Best Achievement in Music for an original movie, three songs from the film were nominated all in the same category, but they didn't win. It does have a great soundtrack. The movie did win best Family film from Broadcast Film Critics Association and The Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards. Enchanted is a film that features many little insights and innuendos into many of the Disney Princess movies. I named many of their films above, but there are more little things that I'm sure fans of Disney films will be able to pick out within the film it's self. Enchanted is a great move to watch with the whole family. It captures audience of all ages. It is a great movie for your collection and in my opinion, should be one of the Disney's classic movies.
