The Review

Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney join forces to bring us an action adventure film for children like no other. G-Force is a film that is very hard to explain to us adults without us raising an eyebrow and shaking our heads. The plot, when explained is one that you might ask a lot of questions about if you have never heard of this film, nor have never seen the trailer. I will try my best to explain it below, but be warned, you will probably just say to yourself; “Did I just read that right”?

If you have even seen the show The Wonder Pets on Nickelodeon, think of G-Force as an enhanced version of the show in a CGI live action format, where the problem is a lot more bigger than that of rescuing a kitten stuck in a tree.  I n the case of G-Force, three guinea pigs, a mole and a fly are enhanced with communication technology so that they communicate with their human counterpart.  When the team is asked to infiltrate a suspected terrorist’s compound and recover a secret document from his computer, the team accidentally acquires the wrong files, which are actually plans for an advanced coffee maker. After returning to base their human counterpart and owner Ben (Zach Galifianakis) is meet by a CIA agent that is there to see how his technology in using animals for advanced government projects is advancing. Unimpressed with everything, the agent orders the project shut down. The animals not happy with the situation escape, but find themselves caged up in a pet shop, where some of them escape and others are sold as pets. However, with only a day left to stop a terrorist from taking over the world; the team will reassemble to stop the evil villain from carrying out his deeds.

The film has a cast of very well known actors many of whom voice the animal characters in this film. Darwin (Sam Rockwell), Juarez (Penélope Cruz), Blaster (Tracy Morgan), Hurley (Jon Favreau),The mole Speckles (Nicolas Cage), and fly Mooch (Edwin Louis) are all the animals voices in the film. Bill Nighty plays the films villain Leonard Saber, and there a cameo voice by Steve Buscemi as Bucky the hamster.  Others talent in the film includes actors such as Will Arnett, Kelli Garner Tyler Patrick Jones and Zach Galifianakis as Ben.

The Blu-ray combo pack come with not only the film and special features on Blu-ray, but also the film on DVD and a digital copy of the film as well.  The exclusive Blu-ray special features include a Cine-Explore option with Darwin, Blaster and their creator, Bruckheimer Animated: A look back at his CG work and Access Granted: Inside the animated lab. Other features on the disc include G-Farce: Bloopers and Flubs, Deleted Scenes, Music videos for the songs “Jump” by Flo Ride featuring Nelly Furtado and “Ready to Rock” by Steve Rushton and the song “Go G-Force”. The Disc also includes the feature’s Blaster Boot Camp: high tech G-Force training and G-Force Mastermind: Inspiration behind the film.

Overall, G-Force is a fun film with a James Bond like plot only it involves intelligent speaking rodents performing the entire spy like action and taking on the bad guys. I watched this film with my daughter, as I usually do with most of the films that are sent my way. She is almost three years old and she lost interest in the film about ten minutes in. There is a lot of action in the film and it’s too much for young ones to absorb. I think the film is better for older children over the age of six or seven years of age. The idea behind G-Force is a bit out there, it’s nothing like any other live action film we’ve seen for children before. It has that Alvin and the Chipmunks feel to it, yet G-Force is a lot more action packed and even contains some rude humor and mild violence.  It is a fun film, but I would say it’s a film that aimed towards older children. As an adult, you be the judge, you might want to sit down and watch it with your children, however I think most adults will agree that this is a film you leave for the kids to watch on a rainy day, so you can keep them busy while you get some things done around the house.
