SYNOPSIS

Click Here Disney's "Handy Manny" is a show that is played on the Disney channel, mainly during Playhouse Disney hours. It's a show that combines teamwork, culture and knowledge all together as one. On this DVD Manny and his tools help people go Green. The DVD has five episodes all together one of which includes Manny and his tools building a bridge over a turtle habitat. The second episode involves a moving sign and teaches about Solar power where Manny and his tools use solar panels to power the moving sign. The third episode involves a science fair and innovative ways to conserve energy while working on a broken air conditioner.  The forth involves fixing a chandelier and using certain techniques to use light in a more effective and green way.  The last episode is about the importance of plants, where the tools learn about plants while helping Manny fix a window and put in a flower box in the process. It's a fun filled DVD with positive and educational ways to teach kids about the importance of keeping things clean and green.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

There is really nothing at all in this show that is of concern at all. I think the only thing I can really say is that you might want to let your kids know that certain tools, such as a saw, hammer and screw driver should only be handled by adults as they can cause harm if used improperly.     Manny always explains how the tools fix things when they are on a job, so it does give kids an education about how tools work and how being safe is always the number one priority.

Some other things in the show that might be of concern a little are the fact that the flathead screwdriver and the Philips head screwdriver seem to disagree on a lot of things and are always trying to do better than one another. In one episode they push each other back in forth while trying to cool down in front of a fan. Manny always tells them to calm down and take turns and work together, and they always seem to agree with with (and do) what he says. There is also a character Mr. Lopart that always seems to be making mistakes and getting hurt. He falls off his bicycle in one episode and trips into a bucket of ice in another. It seems that in each episode something always happens to him. He his never severely hurt, and its played out in a comical way. It's still something that might be of concern, but there is nothing that implies that Mr. Lopart is hurt. An air conditioner cover falls onto a table nearly hitting Manny and two kids destroying two science projects but no one is injured.

OVERALL VIEWS

Handy Manny: Green Team is a great DVD to teach your children about how important it is to conserve energy and the use of different methods to keep the planet clean.  But besides that there are other lessons that children can learn from watching the show, one of the most important things that Manny stresses is safety, especially when it comes to fixing things and using tools. He also teaches the importance of teamwork and the importance of following directions.   The character also are very cultural and come from all different types of ethnicities and backgrounds. The show also incorporates English and Spanish together as well, to help your kids learn both languages together.  So the show does have a lot of positive and educational elements, as well as entertaining stories.

The DVD comes with five episodes in all as well as a few features. "Livin' La Vida Verde" feature is one where you and your child can explore Manny's workshop and discover which objects can be reused and recycled. There is also Manny's Green Checklist, which is a list of ways you can help make your home go green.

Overall, Handy Manny is a great cartoon that teaches very positive and educational things to children.  I recommend this DVD for children over the age of one.  It's a good cartoon, and the episodes can also be caught on the Disney Channel on weekday mornings.  The DVD is a good one to pick up if your children really enjoy the show and if you want them to learn about conservation at a young age.
