Jakers! Treasure Hunt on Raloo Farm is a DVD that is comprised of four episodes from the popular kids show on PBS. Each episode follows an eight year old pig named Piggley Winks and his friends Ferny the bull and Dannan the duck. All three of them are always looking for adventure. The four episodes on the DVD include "Treasure Hunt" which involves the trio going on a treasure hunt throughout the world of Jakers, while not knowing that they are actually doing chores Piggley Winks chores while on the hunt. The second episodes titled Dragon's Egg is about the trio finding an egg that they believe is actually from a dragon and try to keep it from everyone else, not realizing that it's actually the egg of a swan chick and that taking care of it is not going to be an easy task. The third episode is about Dannan learning to dance, she at first thinks she's doing good but she really needs to learn more, and is afraid that her friends won't want to dance with her anymore. The final episode titled Growing Pains; Piggley wishes he was grown up so he would not have to listen to his parents rules. But when Piggley father hurts his leg, he puts Piggley in charge of the farm for the day, and Piggley soon learns that being a grown up is a lot harder than being a kid.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language |

There is not one thing that I can honestly say is violent in these episodes. There is some wining about not wanting to do chores and the likes and even some of the younger characters play tricks on other characters but it's nothing to really worry about. Whatever you may assume to be the slightest bit of what even can be considered violence or graphic in these episodes are nothing more than someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time and something silly happens to them. On a lighter note, the characters in this series do go though and face many different challenges, all of which have to do with the process of growing up and learning to do the right thing. So why some of the characters may wine and complain this series of episodes actually is very helpful in giving parents ideas on how to make work fun for their children without them even knowing their doing work. You may have noticed above that this DVD is unrated by any government organization. But my guess is that it would easily land a "G" rating.

Jakers is a very good and educational cartoon for children to watch. I would say that it's probably best suited for children ages three and up as there are some elements in the shows that kids under that age might not understand. I put it on and tried to watch it with my 11 month old daughter and she maybe watched the first five minutes of the first episode, and I think a lot of it had to do with the great 3-D animation and characters, but I think the details where too much for her and she decided playing with her toys was more fun. So I think it's made for a child with more of an attention span and idea for story. They are very educational in teaching right from wrong and even parents can get a tip or two from the ideas that are presented in these episodes. The stories are fun and inspiring for kids, they teach a lot about not only the right things but also it shows and teaches children about manners, farm animals, different kinds of foods, shapes etc. One thing though that I think might confuse children especially in the United States is that Jakers is actually an Irish cartoon and the characters all speak with an Irish dialect. It could be confusing for kids but they also can learn from it as well. Overall they are great little episodes that can not only teach your children a thing or too but as I said above give you as a parent so good idea as to how to handle a few things with your children as well. The DVD includes all four episodes and a few special features including The great fairly test read along, Piggley's storyteller playhouse, and a meet the grandparents of Jakers feature.
