The Review

The Disney Channel has always prided themselves about bringing quality educational programming for young children to their Playhouse Disney timeslot.  A few years back Disney paid a lot of money to buy the rights to the Baby Einstein’s educational series for babies and toddlers.  Since then, both Disney and the Baby Einstein Company have created other educational series of shows and DVDs to help give young kids a head start in life by not only entertaining them with the shows but also teaching them new things on their level. One of those shows is Little Einstein’s, which is aimed more towards children over the age of two, but children younger than two can also be entertained by the series as well.

Little Einstein’s is a show that my daughter watches almost every morning. Since she was a baby, she always got a kick out me singing the theme song to her every morning. (Which is very catchy?)  However, Little Einstein’s is more than just a children’s show with a catchy theme song. It teaches children about music by some of the worlds greatest classical musicians, as well as gives them a appreciation of art from the worlds most renounced artists. The show follows four friends who jump aboard their advanced rocket ship Rocket who brings them all over the world to teach and show them all the great things that are out there. Everything from science, animals, biology, engineering, socialization, geology and so on is the focus of each episode. The show is also interactive and gets the kids up off the couch to do some singing, dancing and some light exercise.

The DVD comes with four episodes including one never-before-seen episode titled “Fire Truck Rocket”, the other three episodes include “Melody The Music Pet”, Carmine’s Big Race” and “Mr. Penguin’s Ice-Cream Adventure.  The DVD also an interactive feature that you can use your remote control for. Besides the Disney fast play, which lets you jump around the disc to each feature; there are two Magic Mission Mode features. The first one is for ages 2-3 and as your child watches the episodes questions will show up about colors, shapes and sizes, which your child can answer, using the remote control. Magic Mission Mode 2 is for ages 4-6, which has some more challenging questions for the older kids.

Overall, for adults you might be bored with this one, it’s more entertaining for children who have minds like sponges. The animation is nothing exciting, so for adults we are not entertained like we would be by some of the other cartoons. This is a show that for young kids. My daughter loves the show and for those so-called experts that say these educational cartoons do not make your kid smarter, I beg to differ. Besides the fact that my wife and I are very involved in educating and teaching my daughter new things, she has learned a lot from shows like this. I highly recommend this DVD to parents who want their kids to learn something while watching television.  Unlike most of the cartoons for kids on television, I have to give Disney credit for their achievements in educational programming for young children. Little Einstein’s is one of those show that your child can watch and learn from.
