Madeline is a popular fictional character that was created by Ludwig Bemelman. The character first appeared in a book in 1939 that was to become the first of many written and published by Bemelman. As the character grew in popularity during the 1940s and 50’s Bemelman published numerous sequels to the first Madeline book. They soon became so popular that the character became the focus of a short film that was nominated for an Academy Award. Since the beginning, the character of Madeline has had several movies, and television series as well as a live action film all based on the books and the character, and new books are still being written and published by Ludwig Bemelman’s grandson, John Bemelmans-Marciano. Madeline on the Town follows Madeline, her dog Genevieve, and her twelve classmates from Miss Clavel’s Parisian school as they go on an adventure around the town in six exciting episodes that are featured on the DVD. Follow Madeline and her friends as they go to a Birthday Party at the Zoo, a Wedding, a Costume Party, a Fashion Show, The Ballet and on Stage. Madeline has been around for decades; I can remember my sisters reading the books when we were kids and I even remember my young cousin watching the cartoon in the early 90’s on television. The new animated series which was released in 2001 has better animation and is strong in it’s storyline and character development. The adventures are ripped right out of the books and bring Madeline and her friends to life, where they take you and your children on a wonderful adventure. The DVD comes with six exciting episodes with a running time of 132 minutes. The DVD was be released by Shout Factory on March 8th 2011 and its well worth the buy for children of all ages. My young daughter enjoyed all the episodes on this DVD as I’m sure will your child. The stories are fun, well written and each has a special little message that reflects the lesson of the episode and the values and adventures of the character.
