Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney put together this little film, Morning Light. Being a sailor himself and having competed in and won many world sailing races. Roy decided to put together a group of young talented kids, train them in the art of sailing for six months and enter them in the Trans Pacific (Transpac for short) Yacht Race. The Transpac is for the most part one of the worlds top sailing races. fifteen young adults were chosen to race, only eleven will be chosen to be part of the final race, all based on how well they do during their training. But when the real ten day race from the Californian coast to the Hawaiian islands takes place, the crew will need to use all their knowledge they learned from their training, while they not only battle the dangers of the Pacific Ocean, but also try to prove that they can complete with the worlds top sailors. |

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language |

Violence There is no violence at all in this film. There are some intense sailing scenes and some tough decisions making on the parts of the sailors, but nothing that's of major concern. Sailing is a dangerous and sometimes violent sport when it comes to competing with the ocean elements and the weather. But there really is not much of that going on in this film. Just a lot of face paced action. Graphic Content In a training exercise one of the constants has trouble staying a float in a pool, but makes it though the excise alright. The same constant is them part of a real training exercise in the ocean where he fall overboard and his crew mates have to rescue him. Other than that there really is nothing over the top and graphic at all. Language There are a few slight swears here and there such as the word that describes another name for a donkey, crap and the "F" word is referred to as the "F" word by one of the crew mates. There are also a few scene in which curse words are beeped out as well.

I know nothing about sailing. The closest thing I ever came to sailing was on a friend of mines little sail boat he had when I was in High School. We used to take the thing out in the bay in the shallow water and just mess around. I always though to myself that it can't be as hard as it looks. I know it's a sport that a lot of people do all over the world, but never thought of it as being such a sport that involved a lot of knowledge and skill until I saw this film. Morning Light is not only a film about sailing a boat twenty five thousand miles from California to Hawaii, it's a film about team work and accomplishing a goal. While the film may have some minor things that might make some parents not let their kids watch it. Those things are minor to the true reason behind what this film is about. I personally think that this film is good for children over the age of seven to watch, because it's a film that has so many positive elements and it show a child that if you dream hard and work hard that you can accomplish anything. It's a truly inspiring documentary that only Disney can pull off. I for one thought the film was going to be boring, however it turned out to be quite informative and entertaining. The Blu-Ray Disc does not have much on it in the way of special features but it does come with two featurettes such as "stories from the Sea with host Jason Earles" and Morning Light: making the cut as it was aired on ESPN. The picture quality on the Disc is really great and some of the scenes are so crisp and clear that I though they were animated. Turns out they just looked realistic on my HDTV. So yes it's a disc that has a lot of great eye candy in the film with some great breath taking shots. Overall I recommend giving this film a watch. even if you know nothing about sailing and don't care to know anything about it; I believe you will really enjoy the story of the Morning Light and it's crew. As I stated above it's also a good film to show children ages seven and up. Younger children will probably get bored with this film fast, but I think children can learn from the moral values that this film brings to the table and it shows that if your work hard in life you can accomplish anything.
