When actor Jim Carrey first started out it was on the hit television show In Living Color. His characters on the show were instant hits, and soon he was getting leading roles in many goofball comedy films such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb & Dumber. He later went on to do more serious roles in films such as The Truman Show and The Man in the Man. Having had much success in both comedic and dramatic films; Carrey started doing family films with the blockbuster hit Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Horton Hears A Who, He also the part of Scrooge in the updated animated version of A Christmas Carol. His latest film; Mr Poppers Penguins is another genuine hit for the successful Carrey. Mr. Poppers Penguins is about a top real estate business man, Mr. Popper (Carrey) that is about to try to make the biggest deal of his life by acquiring the famous Tavern on the Green in New York City, as the owners mull over selling the place. However, Popper given up his family and life to be one of the top executive for the company he works for. Then one day a package arrives at his door from his dead father. In the box is a penguin, and then while trying to return this solo penguin, a misunderstanding occurs and more penguins are shipped to him. Popper tries his best to get rid of them, but when his ex-wife and kids stop by for his younger son’s birthday, the boy thinks the penguins are his birthday gift. Soon Mr. Popper finds himself catering to the penguins and rejecting his job. In the end the penguins show Mr. Popper just how important family is. The Blu-ray combo pack has many features. Not only do you get a DVD and digital copy of the film, but on the blu-ray disc itself are many exciting extras. There is a short animated film titled Nimrod & Stinky’s Antarctic Adventure. There are also the featurettes Penguin Pandemonium and The Legacy of Mr. Popper’s Penguins, as well as deleted scenes, a gag reel and much more. My family and I really enjoyed Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Since its arrival at my home, my four year old daughter has made me watch several times already. It’s her new favorite movie. It does have a few mildly violent, yet funny things in it, and of course there is some mild rude humor and language, but really the film is fine for kids of all ages unless certain words and things bother you as a parent. It is really a very fun family film that is well worth watching. I highly recommend it.
