The Baby Einstein Company was founded in 1996 by Julie Clark. Her husband and she invested their savings to make their first Baby Einstein video. In 1998 with just a few videos on the market the company made its first million, in 2000, that investment turned into ten million. The couple knew these videos were making money and turning heads. Disney became interested, bought 80% of the company and now The Baby Einstein Company and their educational videos for babies and toddlers are known throughout the world. The company is now estimated to be worth over four hundred millions dollars. Usually Disney does not send out any of the Baby Einstein products for review. I have in the past reviewed a few of the discs however, if you have seen the movies before you know that they are all themed based and are aimed at educating babies. The Baby Einstein Company latest product are their three level discovery kits which come with the movie, a music CD and discovery cards. There are nine discs in all, three for each level. Disney was kind enough to send me one of the level 2 discs, Neptune’s Ocean. Neptune’s Ocean is a fun disc that takes your child into the ocean to discover and explore what lies beneath our ocean waters. There is some wonderful images and video of all of the plant life, fish and creatures our oceans have to offer. The movie is like watching a nature show accompanied by a great musical score. The set also includes a music CD that features the music in the movie. The CD is ideal for car rides and for listening around the house. There is also a great set of discovery cards that feature animals from the ocean on them, and facts about them on the back of the cards. I have a one year old and a four year old. When this disc arrived in the mail, my wife decided to watch it with the kids that night. Both of them were glued to the set, taking in the beauty of each shot as the ocean came to life before their eyes. My four year old can name just about every creature that lives in the ocean, and although I can’t give all the credit to Disney and The Baby Einstein Company; (We have a season pass to the zoo and aquarium) their previous ocean discs helped pave the way for her appreciation and education in oceanography and marine life. The DVD has a few features which include the feature show, plus two mini shows, Baby’s First Concert Hall – A music-only experience and A Parents Journey Inside the Neptune’s Ocean Discovery Kit. The DVD also includes the show in French and Spanish as well. There is one thing I always noticed about the Baby Einstein discs that no other disc, educational video or cartoon can do and that is hold a baby’s attention all the way through till the end. My one year old has a short attention span, she is always on the move, getting into everything and exploring the house on her own. She is unstoppable. However, when I need a break from chasing her around I can always rely on a Baby Einstein disc to give me a break. The good thing about them is that they learn from them. Regardless of whatever any study says about the discs, I can tell you from experience that my children know a lot more from watching these discs then I did when I was younger. Of course I can’t give the disc all the credit, but they are good tools for helping your child learn. With the discovery kits The Baby Einstein Company and Disney have evolved the brand to the next level. Not only will your child be able to watch the educational videos but they will be able to listen to the music whenever they can, and with the discovery cards they can learn facts and many other things just like they would be studying flashcards in school. These kits are worth the investment, not only because your children are having fun watching them, but because it’s an investment in their education. I highly recommend buying at least one of these discovery kits.
