The Review

Every Holiday season it seems that Disney has to give us a film that involves Christmas and talking animals. Lat year we got Santa Buddies, part of the long going film series involving five golden retriever puppies and their adventures.  In that film the buddies meet Santa Claus’s dog; Santa Paws. This year Disney has decided to award Santa Paws in his own movie, The Search for Santa Paws. A film that I found to be more fun and heart warming than last years Santa Buddies.

When Santa Claus visits New York City with Santa Paws after hearing about the death of his friend and that children are losing their belief in Christmas; Santa is hit by a car, is robed of his magic holiday crystal, and loses his memory. He is hired by his friend’s grandson to be the store Santa. Business begins to boom as parents and children flock to see him. Meanwhile Santa Paws, lost in New York City is looking for Santa. He joins forces with a group of street dogs, a young orphan girl and her friends at the orphanage and his elf friend from the North Pole to look for Santa. Meanwhile the orphanage care taker that does not care for the children, her dog catching boy friend and a thief trying using Santa’s belongings to con people out of their money and gifts are the only obstacles that Santa Paws and company face as they try to find the real Santa Claus and make him remember who he is.

The Search for Santa Paws is a film that I actually found myself getting teary eyed during certain scenes. Besides the whole Santa losing his memory plot line, there is this orphanage plotline that is very sad. You hear these children talk about how their parents are dead, and how they don’t get to celebrate Christmas because the lady taking care of them does no care for joy or toys. The children are left with nothing but hopelessness until the arrival of a new face, Quinn (America’s Got Talent’s Kaitlyn Maher). Quinn believes that Santa Claus will grant all of her wishes, and when she meets up with Santa Paws that is what happens and the kids believe that there is hope. The film as a whole is one that not only gets you into the holiday spirit, but also makes you think about the less fortunate.

Apart from the film capturing the Holiday spirit and ending on a happy note. There is some comical and somewhat familiarity to other Disney films that I need to point out. There is a sub plot in the film that involves a boy named Jimmy. Jimmy is a wilderness scout that is trying to get a new badge. He runs into Santa’s Reindeer in Central Park, and they send him on a mission to find the real Santa. Jimmy looks an awful lot like Russell from the film UP, and even sounds and acts like him.

The Blu-ray and DVD combo pack both contain the following special features on both discs. The Hucklebuckle Hero – Newly appointed elf dog T-Money saves the day in this pop-up storybook, Sing-Along Mode- Colorful lyrics appear on the screen so you can sing along with the movie. Music Video – “Deck the Halls” performed by Disney Channel star Debby Ryan and the films deleted scenes.

Overall, The Search for Santa Paws is a film that is full of the Christmas spirit. It is a film that takes from other films such as Miracle on 34th Street, Annie, and as I mentioned before in a comical sense; UP. It is a film that is fun for the whole family and I’m sure the message of the film will not only inspire you to give to the needy this holiday season but will also help your children understand the meaning of Christmas.
