VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

There is nothing that I can honestly point out that would fit the criteria as being violent or anything of that nature, there are a few things like guys with axes cutting down trees and some cartoon female dress in one piece bathing suits line dancing, as well as shoulders with muskets. Overall anything that would be considered somewhat graphic all has to do with how our government was formed though things like the Revolutionary  War, however it is all done in the cleanest possible way. There is no violence or anything of the sorts, its mainly the overall look of some of the animation that might be a concern to some parents.

OVERALL VIEWS

With this year be an election year, Schoolhouse Rocks is a DVD that will help your younger children understand what government is about and how it runs. Everything from the importance of keeping the earth clean to taxes, From the three branches of Government to how a bill is passed. There is even a song about Wall Street and how the financial markets effect the counties economy, about how stocks and investments work, and stuff of that nature. There is even a song about immigration during the 1920's and a song about how American got it's freedom.

Overall, this is a good DVD as a learning tool for young kids to learn about the government, while the DVD is fine for kids of all ages, I think in order for kids to really understand what they are taking in from the songs they would have to be a little bit older, maybe around seven or eight years old.  After looking at he box art, I recognized some of the characters from the songs, and I think that I might of been shown these cartoon on film when I was in elementary school during the early 1980's.  it's not the most entertaining DVD, and yes there is no story or movie to follow along. It is more of an educational video explaining the origins of our government and how it works.

The DVD has fifteen songs that educate children about all different issues of the government and history of our country. There really is not much in terms of special features but it does have a few things such as an all new to DVD song called "Presidential Minute" which has two surprise ending, and an election tracking kit that comes with the DVD so kids can track this upcoming election and how many delegates each state is worth so they can track who is winning the upcoming election. It's a great DVD if you have a child in school who is learning about the election process or needs some extra help in their social studies class understanding how our government works and how our country is run.
