SYNOPSIS |

The very popular ogre Shrek of Fairly Tale Land is back with his own Christmas special that premiered on Television during the Christmas season last year. "Shrek the Hall" is a Christmas tale starring the famed ogre voiced by Mike Meyers and his loveable friend Donkey (Eddie Murphy) his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and his many other friends. In this Christmas story Shrek is constantly being bugged by Donkey about how many days are left until Christmas. Shrek, not knowing much about the holiday ignores Donkey's excitement, but it's not until Fiona expresses her interest in the holiday that Shrek realizes how much of a big deal it is. Shrek, with only a few days to go before Christmas rushes to learn what the holiday is all about. He wants to make it a special day for his wife and their children, so he sets out to make the day more special. However, all his friends show up at his home on Christmas Eve and party hard, things get out of control and Shrek gets a bit heated about all the crazy fun going on in his home. Princess Fiona tells Shrek that this is what Christmas is all about, and even though some excitement may get out of hand the most important thing about Christmas is spending time with your family and friends. |

Violence There is not much violence in this Christmas special, but there is some cartoon like animated violence, but nothing too crazy. Some pushing and shoving here and there, but nothing crazy. There is more content in the movie to worry about than anything else. Graphic Content There are a lot of things in this show that might be of concern and in fact I might not be able to name them all here. But let me begin by saying that some of the content that I think would be the upmost concern. Shrek gets his bottom lit on fire, Pinocchio gets a stocking nailed into his leg, The Gingerbread man is a story sequence talks about how his girlfriend was was eaten by Santa Claus and it's shown as a flash back with The Gingerbread man about to kiss his girlfriend when Santa comes out of nowhere in Godzilla like fashion, and picks up his girlfriend and takes a bite out of her. It's not shown on screen, but what we are shown is the Gingerbread screaming while crumbs fall into his car. Puss in Boots get beat up by Shrek and Fiona's children, Snakes are frozen ad turned into candy canes, a possum is taken from a tree and turned into Christmas supper fro Shrek and his family, and then there are other little things here and there that Donkey and Shrek do that might be of concern, but nothing as big as the ones I mentioned above. All of it is of course done with humoristic taste for the most part, but it still something that should be bought to light should your children be sensitive to such things. Language There are a lot of laugh and fart jokes, burping and some yelling. But no real bad language to worry about. Just some funny saying about poop, gas and stinky smells.

Even though this show only runs about twenty-two minutes; it's very funny and has a good message about how important family and friends are during the holiday season. What makes it even better is that the original cast of the films all agreed to come back and voice the roles of the characters they play. Dreamworks also spared no expense in making sure the animation was top notch. We have that great all star cast that includes Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots. Sure it's short, but there is a lot of fun filled action and a great Christmas message and story all jammed in. I really enjoyed it and one thing that I found to be one positive thing is that it's a story that's very easy for young children to follow. Sure it has some animated content that you might not care for your young ones to see, but the overall good message at the end outshines anything negative that the film might present. The Shrek films have been a cash cow for Dreamworks since the first film came out in 2001, since then the big ogre has garnished himself two sequels with another one on the way in 2010, a 3-D experience at Universal Studios, video games, tons of merchandise and this Christmas Special. Although the show itself only runs twenty-two minutes, there is plenty more on this DVD. You can watch the show in either Widescreen or Full screen format, There are a bunch of sing along music videos with such holiday songs like Deck the Halls & 12 Days of Christmas. Gingy's Dunking Game, Shrek Carnival Craze, Video Game Demo, and Cheat code, and a Dreamworks Animation Video Jukebox. It's a great classic Christmas cartoons and well worth watching to help get you and your kids into the holiday sprit.
