SYNOPSIS |

A human was not the first primate in space, a Chimp was and his name was Ham. This cartoony movie is about Ham's grandson whom after years of being put on the backburner at NASA watching humans travel into space has finally been called to duty. The thing is however, the mission he and his space chimp pals are about to go on is one they might not return from, as they are being sent into a black hole to find a missing space probe. However, when they are blasted into space, they end up tracking the probe to an alien planet which is being run by an evil alien named Zartog. The chimps realizing the aliens of the planet are under the control of Zartog, fight to release the planet of his hold and save the small planet. |

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language |

Violence There are a bunch of different types of aliens that have sharp teeth and look menacing looking. There is also a scene in which a spike is shot from this flying alien and sticks Ham in the bottom. The main villain in the film's name is Zartog and he does have a violent and slick personality. His mission is to use technology (A space Probe) to take over his planet. He uses the machine to make slaves of his people and even encases them in silver and sets them up as statues. There is also a monster that's a dinosaur-slug like creature that succeeds in eating one of the characters. But in the end she turns out OK, and so do the other characters whom seem to get hurt or entombed in this movie. Graphic Content There are a few things that might be a concern for parents, one being some content that is almost sexual in nature.. There are female aliens in the film that are part of a alien rock band that dress up in skimpy looking clothes that seem a bit reveling. Ham has the hots for Luna and does spend some time hitting on her, there is also a scene where Zartog discovers the space probe and it goes crazy shining lasers all over the place. one of the lasers points at Zartog's private area and then the probe picks him up and and begins to examine him off screen. There are also things like a dog peeing on one of the characters and small minor things here and there. Language Space Chimps has a few innuendos that may come off as innocent talk with a sexual subtext that mainly adults or teen would get. One involves a Banana in one of the characters pockets and another revolves around the size of "the beast". There is also some little insults like dork, a catch praise about poop and some other odd insults that pertain to just the film, but are more like space jokes in a way. There is nothing bad in terms of foul language, but there are those insults that the characters throw around at one another that might be a concern.

Folks, Its a movie with cartoon chimps, who are put in a rocket and sent into space and come across an alien planet. Can't get a plot that's more simple then that. For parents you'll find it to be a boring non-interesting cartoon movie. Kids, especially young boys will most likely love it for it's adventurous plot. it has it's moments and one liners that only parents may get, but other than that it's nothing special. It's not as interesting as say a film Disney would release. The character are cute, especially that of Ham and Luna but the rest are kind of one dimensional, and the movie itself has a Looney toons kind of feel to it in a certain sense. The Space Chimps DVD release is presented on a flipper disc in both widescreen (2.35:1 aspect ratio) and full screen (1.33:1 aspect ratio) formats with English 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish/French Dolby Surround audio with English and Spanish subtitles. DVD bonus features include: Fox Movie Channel Presents: "Casting Session" featurette, A Still Gallery and trailers. It's not a packed DVD, but it's holds it's own, and like I said it's a film that is more suited for children, I'd say around ages five and up would enjoy it. Still though, the movie does have a few things that might concern parents, so you might want to sit down and watch this one first and decide if it might be suitable for your younger children.
