SYNOPSIS

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is Joe Kingman a superstar football playing quarterback who's team has just made the playoffs and is considered one of the prime teams to make the super bowl. Joe has a very big ego and his whole life revolves around playing football and making money. Joe is on top of the world, things can't get any better, except Joe is about to find out something that the never knew about.  Joe answers his door one day to find an young eight year old girl behind his door. Her name is Payton and she's Joe's daughter from his previous marriage.  Payton is a very smart young girl and presents Joe with all the proof that he is in fact her father. Payton tells Joe that her mother is on a month long trip in Africa bringing food a medical supplies to starving people in a third world country and that she had no one to leave Payton with.  Unable to reach Payton's mother, Joe is stuck with Payton for one month. With eight years to make up for, and an ego that he has a hard time getting rid off, Joe must learn how to be a father first and a football player second.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

The Game Plan has very mild violence. Most if it consist of football playing and tackles and that's about it. The same goes for the graphic content in the film, we have some kissing and men in towels, The Rock wearing tights, (Yeah its pretty funny). There is a scene where Payton does end up in the hospital because she has an allergic reaction to peanuts. That scene is probably the most intense.  But there is nothing that's so graphic that it will make you want to hide your child's eyes. There is very limited bad language in the film, most of the "bad words" used are in the likes of "stupid" or "jerk".  The attitudes of some of the characters are very stuck up and snobby, mainly that of Joe himself and his agent. Payton is a little sneaky in the film and does have a smart but rather cute attitude in the film as well, but nothing so bad that your kids won't understand what's going on.  There is however one scene in the film that did get to me a little bit, and it was a scene in which Joe brings Payton to a nightclub/restaurant that he just opened and then forgets about her and takes off in his car.  He's halfway home before he realizes he forgot her, and it's 3am in the morning. However all is well as some of Joe's friends where there watching her, and he even got a bad write up in the papers the next day.

Disney always does a good job when toning down the details that would make a film overly violent and full of bad language, and this film is suitable enough for children over the age of six to sit down and watch.

OVERALL VIEWS

The Game Plan is a very emotional film that displays the relationship between father and daughter. I for one took a liking to the film because I have a daughter.  Even though my daughter is only ten months old, there is the growing bond of unconditional love there. It's a very heart warming story and I really enjoyed all the cute little aspects the film has to offer. It's also a coming of age film in the sense that we have an egotistical guy in Joe Kingman who's lived the life of a bachelor with no worries in life, have to grow up and be a man and take care of his daughter. The film has a lot of heart to it, and it's teaches not only children life lessons but parents as well.

The movie has a lot of great things to offer production wise. It has the great glamorous set design and production values that all great Disney movies have.  The acting is very good, especially that of Dwayne Johnson who's mainly been known for his role in the wrestling ring and in action and sci-fi films. This  was the perfect role for him to show off his more softer side and that he truly is a good actor both inside and outside the ring. Young Madison Pettis who played Payton was very good in the role as well as Kyra Sedgwick who played Joe's annoying agent Stella Peck. The Game Plan is very well put together film with the greatness that only Disney can provide.

Over, The Game Plan is a fun action packed, good hearted film about the relationship that bond a father and daughter together. It's a heart warming tale, that will make you laugh and cry. It's a great film for the whole family to sit down and watch together. Disney once again pulls off yet another classic film to add to their long list, and The Game Plan is one that you should definitely without a doubt pick up and add to your DVD or Blu-ray collection.
