Disney has its fair hare of great sidekicks in all of it television, movies and animated shows. Mickey Mouse has Pluto, Peter Pan has Tinkerbell, and Snow While has her seven dwarfs. But out of all the Disney sidekicks the one who is probably the most popular is Tigger. In 2000 Disney gave Tigger his own film simply titled The Tigger Movie. Now ten years later, the film is getting it’s own special treatment with a tenth anniversary release on DVD. The animated film follows the ever-loveable bouncy Tigger on a journey to find other Tiggers out in the Hundred Acre Woods. In the beginning of the movie Tigger’s friend are trying to prepare for the winter months while Tigger seems to be doing his own thing. Goofing off and trying to have a lot of fun. While doing so Tigger accidentally causes a huge rock to fall on Eeyore's house. All the friends of the Hundred Acre Woods try to get the rock off, but Tigger’s plan works, but while doing his super bounce he causes all of his friends to get dirty with a mud bath. Tigger upset by the commotion talks with Roo, who advises Tigger, that maybe he should try to find more Tiggers like himself. He talks with Owl who gives him advice on how to figure out his family tree. Tigger tries to find his family by writing letters and looking around the woods, but when no replies come, Tigger is saddened. His friends, feeling bad for him get together and write him a letter letting him know that he part of their family, even signing the letter as so. Tigger gets the letter in his mailbox and after reading it thinks it’s from his real family, not his friends. He goes door to door during the first day of winter, telling his friends of the news telling them that his family is coming to visit tomorrow night. Implying that he always “reads between the lines”. His friends know that they never wrote such a thing in the letter, but feeling bad for their friend, they do not have the heart to let him know that it was they who wrote the letter. His friends plan to dress up like Tiggers and attend his party. But when they get there, Roo gives the secret away that it’s just his friends dressed like Tiggers. This causes Tigger to get upset and leave, as he put’s it For-ever! However Tigger finds himself getting into trouble and only his friends come to the rescue. Tigger soon realizes that his true family is the friends that surround him and live in The Hundred Acre Woods. There is very little violence or graphic content that parents should be concerned about. Basically there are a few things such as Tigger bouncing on his friends, the rock splashing mud on everyone and almost destroying Eeyore's house, and then there is the avalanche which Tigger gets himself caught in. There is your typically complaining and griping from Rabbit, and the fact that his friends tried to trick him into believing that they were real Tiggers is also something that might be of concern but other than that it’s a delightful little tale that takes place in the Winnie the Pooh universe. The DVD has many special features which include two Tigger adventures that are part of the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh series titled “King of the Beasties” and Tigger’s Houseguest. There is also an Interactive trivia game, a matching game, Keeny Loggins “Your Heart will lead me Home” Music video, “Round my Family Tree” sing along, How to make your own family tree feature, DVD storybook, and theatrical trailer. The DVD also comes with a digital copy of the film as well. Overall, while as a parent I found the story to be a bit dragged out, I think kids that really enjoy the Winnie the Pooh cartoons, as well as My Friends Tigger & Pooh on the Disney channel, will enjoy The Tigger Movie. It is a fun little film and the DVD has plenty of neat and exciting features to keep your children busy for hours. I think children under the age of four will lose interest quickly due to its lengthy running time. But children over the age of four I think will be able to sit though it.
