SYNOPSIS

Alex ,Justin and Max Russo seem like your typical family from New York City, but they have a secret, they are wizards. On this DVD titled Wizard School, Alex and Justin attend a school for wizards in training.  While at the school Justin is the popular one, while Alex is the one who's left out. Justin is being trained by an evil teacher in the art of wizard ping pong. But as Alex finds out it's just a ploy of the evil teacher to steal her brothers powers for her own evil purposes. Alex must now try and stop this evil teacher from taking her brother's powers away. Another episode involves the kids getting a dog that has the powers of a dragon, until they lose him to a con artist who wants to enter the dog in a talent dog show. The last episode on the DVD involves the kids convincing the parents to let them use more magic.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

Wizards of Waverly Place does not have to much in terms of violence or really graphic content. It's more of a toned down version of Harry Potter and even does poke fun at the Potter series. Alex is always the one that seems to get herself into trouble and is always up to no good.  She uses her powers most of the time for self gain rather than trying to help others. However in the end her decisions to do something right usually win out. There is a lot of sibling rivalry going on in the show and while there father tires to discipline them but then also at times asks the kids to use magic to help them deceive their mother. Speaking of the mother while watching the episodes I did realize that she does wear some revealing tops that shoe off some cleavage.  There is also a kid named Frankie that has a wise guy attitude, and tries to swindle deals with some of the characters that include kisses and hugs. There is also a flying dog named Dragon that the kids try to pass off as a regular dog, but he has the powers of a dragon. There is one scene where he pee's on Justin's head.  They also use there magic to cheat their way into a dog show by changing Max into a Dog and they con a con wizard out of his the dog he tried to con the kids out of buying in the first place. In the last episode the kids try to get there parents to let them use more magic to make there lives easier, however their parents won't let them because they want them to learn to do things on there own. This is because of a kid at school who's parents let him use his magic freely. But we find out that the kid put a charm on his parents to let him do whatever he wants them to do.

So it's things like stuff listed above that you might want to keep the little ones from watching this show. It's more for kids above the age of eight and pre-teens than it is for younger kids.

OVERALL VIEWS

Wizards of Waverly Place is a very funny and cute sitcoms for the Disney teen audience.  It has some fun filled comedy and even though at times there are some things in the show that might be somewhat of a concern for parents.  It's not a show I'd let kids under the age of eight sit down and watch.  The Family does seem to have a very close relationship with one another, and although they use one liners to kind of poke fun at one another here and there it's all in good fun.  The show does have some good moral lessons for Alex who's always using her magic to get her way, or in ways to benefit her.  In a nutshell the show is a good one, it's funny and has the same feel to it as such shows before it like Sabrina: The Teenage Witch.

The  Wizards of Waverly Place DVD comes with four episodes and has a backstage Disney bonus feature titled "Work it like a Wizard -Take A Spellbinging Trip Behind The Scenes With The Cast. It's not a DVD that's packed with extra goodies, but the episodes are a lot of fun to watch, and I'm sure your kids will enjoy it.
