SYNOPSIS

As I stated in my review for volume 1,  The X-men have been part of the marvel universe for many decades now, and with Disney recently launching it's JET-X channel has acquired the rights to show the cartoon series that originally aired in the early nineteen nineties. Where Volume one only features sixteen episodes of the series, Volume 2  features seventeen episodes on two discs.  This set of discs features the the five part epic Phoenix Saga, which is probably the best known story from the X-men comics.  It also features our famous heroes dueling it out with such villains as Mr. Sinister, Omega Red, Apocalypse and more.

VIOLENCE/GRAPHIC CONTENT/language

Just like the Volume one, this disc also features a lot of animated violence. So much so that there is really to much to go over and name every scene.  But you have plenty of classic battle scenes and fights where all the mutants use their powers against one another. Some human lives are put in danger, guns and other weapons are used, and so on.  The Phoenix saga does contain a lot of dark scary characters and includes everything from death to dangerous space travel and more.

One of the characters, Cyclops (Scott Summers) finds his real father who happens to be a space pirate. He finds out the reason why his mother died and why his father left him. It's a pretty big deal and involves a lot of adult like conversation. This all takes part in the five part Phoenix saga which is pretty dark. We see hero's such as Jean Grey being taken over by the phoenix and is unable to control her powers because of it and causes a lot of harm to others.

Just like the first disc, there is so mild language to be concerned about.  Mainly you have Wolverine again talking trash, as well as many of the other mutants and villains.  There is also a lot of talk about destroying things and taking over the universe as well. But nothing over the top that the language can be considered graphic in any way.

OVERALL VIEWS

I actually enjoyed the episodes on Volume 2 more than I did on Volume 1. The episodes are a lot more darker and do involve a lot situations that might be confusing for some younger kids to understand.  The Phoenix Saga is one of my favorites and although it's got a dark story its very similar to the third live action X-men movie, minus the space travel and everything. There is also the Time Fugitives episodes on here that are also very good and entertaining, as a well as stories about Rogue and Beast.

Overall, I really don't have a lot to say about Volume 2 that I didn't already say in my review for Volume 1. The DVD does not contain any special features but it does include seventeen episodes, Eight on Disc one and nine episodes on disc two, which includes that great five part Phoenix Saga. As with the first volume, a series like this that contains animated action heroes fighting it out with one another and the fact that some of the actions are violent, really makes these episodes not suitable for younger children. When these episodes were produced back in the nineties, we really didn't have the same view of violence in cartoons that we do today. So I would have to say it depends on the child and how well he or she can handle animated violence in animated series such as this one. I think the best age recommendation I can give would be seven and up, but that depends on how well the child can handle it. The X-men animated series is one that as a parent you will need to sit down and check out and decide when would be the appropriate  time to let your child view these discs.
